Scam Alert

Good afternoon, I have received messages today from a couple members of our congregation who have received a text message and/or an email claiming to be from me. They are either asked for assistance or gift cards. Any such email is a scam. Please do not respond to the email and do not send anything. Please delete the email or text.

On Sunday April 28th at 11:30 am -to around noon ( after the service)

we will be joined by members of Crestview United Church’s Affirming committee.

They will present an introduction to the Affirming process and will address the importance of becoming an affirming congregation. They will also share some of their experiences with us.

Please plan to attend as this is the first of our educational events as we look toward becoming an Affirming congregation. This is also an opportunity to ask questions about the process.

Platinum Jubilee Medal Nomination

Helen Whetter

Congratulations to Helen Whetter, a long-time resident of Headingley, and recipient of a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (Mb). As a member of the St. Charles Headingley United Church, Helen has and continues to be an enthusiastic and active volunteer.  A talented musician, she has played the piano and organ for about 25 years, as well as singing in the choir for many more.  She is a member of the church garden group who provides continuous care to the outdoor flower beds.  Helen has been a regular member of the Pastoral Care Team, aiding to the wellness of the congregation as well as continues to work as an organizer and volunteer server at the annual Fall Supper for more than four decades.  After Helen retired from her teaching career in 2000 she started and ran a program designed for Mothers and toddlers, called Mums and Babes, hosted in the HeadingleyCommunity Center for about a decade.  She also has volunteered for our local 4-H organization for the past 30 yrs.  In the wider community she delivers nonperishable foods (that church members donate) weekly to the food bank pantry and delivers gifts of sandwiches and fixings for the St. Matthews Maryland Community Ministry (part of the One Just City) for their lunch program.  She is also an avid volunteer for many other projects such as:  The “Garden Tours” fundraiser for St. Matthews Maryland Ministry, many organizations dedicated to funding women’s rights movements, Folklorama, Kairos (a Cdn faith based human rights movement compromised of Indigenous, settlers and newcomers working together for social change) since 2001.  There’s more, but suffice it to say that Helen Whetter is the epitome of volunteerism and we are so grateful for her outstanding contributions.
